Radioactive Waste 393 - Team Of Scientists Study Fluid Dynamics Of Caustic Solutions Inside Nuclear Waste Tanks

Researchers at the Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Washington State University (WSU) joined forces to study the complex dynamics of low-water liquids that are a problem for nuclear waste processing at federal nuclear waste clean up sites.

Tiffany Returns

Fans of the 80s are going gaga over Tiffany's reboot of her 1980s version of "I Think We're Alone Now," which has been given a modern update that sounds more like a clubbing song than its original mall tune. Is it as good as the original? Does any Gen Xer or Millennial really even care? It's giving us the kind of nostalgia vibes that give us waves of joy and it's got us hoping for a bunch of other 80s reboots.

Non-Smoking Island

In an effort to become a healthier place to live, the Greek island Astypalaia has become a smoke-free place. The island is littered with cigarette butts every year, and instead of spending so much time and money on efforts to clean them up, citizens have decided to make the island a smoke-free place to live instead. According to the island's tourism website, it's an effort to improve "well-being, quality and pureness of life."

Brookie Recipes

If you're ever in the mood for both a brownie and a cookie but can't make a decision, it's definitely brookie time. A brookie is a combination between a brownie and a cookie, combining the best of both worlds. You can even customize a brookie with a swirl of cinnamon, raspberry jam or caramel, top it with some salt or other fun additions to satisfy your cravings.

Creep Creatures From the Deep

If a creature with 45 tentacled feet approached me, I think I'd high-tail it out of the ocean. Even if it was as small as a big spider, it definitely sounds like a creature out of one's nightmares. Because of the way it resembled HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu, the ancient monster has been named Sollasina cthulhu. Don't worry, there aren't any more of these creatures living today; the fossils found are 430 million years old.

The Language Of Bees

We all want more honeybees, whether for our personal gardens or the fate of society in general, so any news about protecting bees is always helpful. But what about bee language? While it doesn't seem like being able to "speak bee" would be all that helpful in preserving bee populations, there are actual benefits to decoding "bee dances" in order to understand how they communicate.

Celebs Who Abstain From Drinking

There are many famous celebrities who are very vocal about their sobriety, especially after battling addiction during a part of their lives. Those may not come as a surprise to many people, but some celebrities who don't drink might still shock you. You might know that Robert Downey, Jr. doesn't drink, for example, but did you know that fellow Marvel man Bradley Cooper also refrains from drinking?

Friday Afternoon

There's absolutely no shortage of fantastic places to buy or savor tea in the Northwest but Friday Afternoon is one of the most fantastic places to get your cup on. The shop owner, Friday Elliott, has a unique perspective on tea due to her Lexical-Gustatory Synesthesia, which enables her to taste words and ideas. This means that your tea blend at Friday Afternoon is customized not only by aroma but by these flavors, giving you a multi-layered experience.

Family Guy Makes A Jab At Game Of Thrones

Every time Family Guy tries to get Emmy votes, many people find it hilarious. This year they're after the vote for Game of Thrones, likely because it's the show's last season and many are tuning in to see what happens in Westeros. While it's quite unlikely that Peter Griffin will end up on the Iron Throne, recent events on the show make it look like anything is possible.

Diseases Frogs Can Give Humans

As much as we adore our animal companions, we have to admit that they don't come without their own risks. Most of the time, if we are decent animal caregivers, we can avoid these risks, but sometimes we can't. Giving dogs and cats innoculations, for example, not only keeps them healthier, but us, too--rabies vaccines are for humans as much as they are for dogs.
