Drinks Inspired By Disney Films
There's a TikTok account where the chef makes all kinds of Disney-inspired foods and it made me wonder... what about drinks? I can't think of a single Disney drink that I've made on my own (aside from tea or coffee, which can be found in plenty of films), but do other people make them?
Quick Mug Cakes
When you want a quick cake and don't feel like baking a whole one (or don't have enough people around to consume the rest), a mug cake is perfect. It's also great because you can add only what you want into the cake, making it as personal as you like.
Hungry Girl has a great easy cake that only requires two ingredients! In just a couple of minutes you can mix yogurt and cake mix for a quick, easy cake. She has a bunch of other mug cake recipes, too.
Best Dessert Pizzas
Dessert pizza is one of my favorite treats, but I'll admit that I've only tried two types: fruit pizza, which is SO good, and chocolate chip cookie pizza, which my mom used to make when we were kids. Seeing how many dessert pizzas are available today makes my jaw drop!
47 Cats In Santa Cruz Need Homes
Last year we seemed to be inundated with stories of animals getting adopted in record numbers as people stayed home, but we still hear stories of animals in terrible circumstances that need help. That's what's happening right now in Santa Cruz county, where 47 cats were taken from a dismal situation and now need homes.
Favorite Zoom Games For Teens And Adults
For the past year, we've had a lot of events online via Zoom and Google Meet, and they've been a big mixed bag. Sometimes the mood is just right for a fun night of games while other times... it's more complicated. We've had nights where teens argued about what to play for half an hour! Yikes. That's why it's sometimes best to choose the game(s) beforehand.
Totally Rad 80s Bath and Body
While I don't have high hopes about finding my Love's Lemon scent anytime soon (or one that's been made recently enough to smell good, that is!), I've seen so many fun 80s bath and body products around the web that prove we're keeping the 80s alive and well! One of my favorite indie companies, Fortune Cookie Soap, had a whole 1980s collection based on celebs as well as things like the Rubick's Cube. Material Girl linen spray, anyone?
Seattle Doctor Helped Develop Vaccine Plan
More and more heroes are being revealed when it comes to who got us the vaccine so quickly, and one of them is Seattle's own Dr. Larry Corey of Fred Hutch. Dr. Fauci says that is his friend and colleague, and the person he called when he knew they would need a vaccine fast.
Family Guy Emmy Mailers Replaced By Covid PSAs
How vaccinations became a political issue used to be beyond me, but having seen so many things become political in the past few years, I wouldn't be surprised if dentistry for sloths became a divisive issue tomorrow. (Let's not forget that Black people have plenty of reasons to mistrust vaccines based on their past history with the American government and doctors.)
Cozy Grateful Dead Blankets And Gear
While we've definitely shared some really cool Dead gear here, the Slowtide Grateful Dead collection is one of my absolute favorites. I absolutely love these blankets, especially the camp blankets that will be perfect for music festivals once we can start going again! They also have towels and ponchos that will be perfect for the outdoor music scene as well.
No, Pap Smears Do Not Lead To Sexual Fulfillment
Wow. Just... wow. My fellow uterus owners, today I saw a post going around where a person without a uterus seriously said that he expected a pap smear might be awkward because--I kid you not--it might make you moan. I'm so not kidding. This person thought that having your most sensitive body part pried apart with cold steel, then scraped for tissue samples, might somehow be erotic.
Best Craft Fails
While we often share our favorite crafts, tips and ideas here at Craft World, we don't often talk about the hilarious craft fails we experience or run across online. Boy do I have a lot of them under my belt! I've even seen people make videos of them on purpose just to get a few laughs.
Poems To Combat Toxic Masculinity
If you follow James Fell on social media, you already know the author is a gem. He always has the most creative, and sometimes cutting, way to express the changes we need to make in our society. He recently shared an aching poem that resonated with him about toxic masculinity and declared that May 5th be known as International Day of Battling Internalized Toxic Masculinity.
Toby Toad on TikTok
There are so many cute frogs and toads to follow on TikTok and today I'd like to recommend @yaboi_toby_toad. Not only is this toad incredibly cute, but he has his own house that gets decorated! You can follow him to see him in flower boxes, getting tiny Amazon packages, wearing clothes, hopping through his house and much more.
The Bigfin Squid
Tiktok user @mndiaye_97 makes fascinating videos about animals and I love the creator's fun commentary and introduction to species that I've never heard of before. This week I watched the creator's piece on the bigfin squid, which led me down a rabbit hole of terror. (I heartily recommend looking up anything you see on Tiktok or YouTube--or anywhere online, for that matter--for verification.)
Tomato And Lemon Pasta
When I ran across a recipe for sundried tomato and lemon pasta on TikTok, I must admit that it sounded weird to me. Lemon? With tomatoes? But it really looks like it would work well together. @delishaas makes this recipe with shallots, basil, Italian spices, red pepper flakes, lemon zest and juice, heavy cream, tomato paste, and Parmesan cheese.
Great Gifts For Grads
Can you believe it's already graduation season? This year's grads, teachers and yes, parents who helped from home all deserve some recognition for an unprecedented year. So many people struggled. Some even lost their lives. The 2020-21 school year will be remembered by everyone who participated in it, and while those memories are going to be bittersweet in many ways, we still need to take the time to celebrate those who accomplished their goals and made it here. Making it through is an accomplishment in and of itself.
